(Mark 6:30-44). In the afternoon, we board a replica wooden “Jesus Boat”, a fishing boat of the kind used by the disciples of Jesus, for our ride on the Sea of Galilee. Dinner and overnight in Tiberius.

We will enjoy a short hike through the beautiful nature reserve of Tel Dan (named for the tribe of Dan) where we will see the gate of Jeroboam and Gideon Springs- truly this area is a feast for the mind and senses! Heading toward Jerusalem, we enjoy a visit to Beit She’an, one of the best-preserved Decapolis Roman cities. In Beit She’an, the bodies of King Saul and his sons were hung from the city walls (1 Samuel 31:10-12) after the Philistines defeated them. We then ascend to the majestic city of Jerusalem for dinner and overnight. “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’ Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.” (Psalm 122:1-2 NASB)
Day 7
Jerusalem: Mt. of Olives, Palm Sunday Road, Garden of Gethsemane, Jewish Quarter, Southern Steps, and Bethlehem
We begin our day on the beautiful Mt. of Olives to behold the breathtaking panorama of the Holy City. Our walk today will proceed down the Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane, with its ancient olive grove, and the Church of All Nations, where Jesus prayed on the night of His betrayal (Matt. 26:36, John 18:1). Entering the Old City of Jerusalem through the Zion Gate, we walk to the most holy shrine of the Jewish people- the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) of Herod’s temple. Beyond the wall lies the 35-acre temple area purchased by King David (2 Sam. 24:18-25). On this site now stands the golden Dome of the Rock (the third holiest shrine in all Islam) and the El-Aksa Mosque. From the temple area, we make our way along the Via Dolorosa (the Way of the Cross), the road that Jesus walked after being sentenced by Pontius Pilate– including the Pools of Bethesda, where Jesus healed a paralytic (John 5:1-15), the Pavement (where Jesus stood while being tried by Pilate), Ecce Homo Arch, and the ancient Cardo. As we leave the Old City, a short walk takes us to stand on the original steps that Jesus walked as he entered the Temple area (Southern Steps). We end our day with a visit to Bethlehem visiting the Church of the Nativity and Shepherd’s Field, where the angel of the Lord proclaimed the Good News of the birth of the Savior (Luke 2: 8-18). Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 8
Ein Gedi, Qumran, Masada, Dead Sea
Leaving Jerusalem this morning, we meander through the Judean desert and along the western shore of the Dead Sea. The stops today include the lovely Ein Gedi- where David hid from King Saul (1 Sam.24: 1-7) and Qumran – where the Dead Sea scrolls were written over 2000 years ago and discovered in 1947. Continuing south, we enjoy a stop at Masada, the fortress built by King Herod and site of the last Jewish resistance against the Romans in 73 AD. Ascending the area by cable car, visitors are able to survey the ruins of the fortifications, waterworks, synagogue, temples and palaces. Time permitting will include a special stop at the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on the earth, for a short float in the healing waters. Please be sure to bring water/closed end shoes, as the bottom surface can be rough. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem.

We will additionally enjoy a visit to the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, the site of the house of Caiphas and where three times, Peter denied Christ and the Upper Room where Jesus and His disciples partook of their Last Supper together. Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem A flashlight and good water shoes will be helpful should you choose to walk through Hezekiah’s tunnel.
