Day 1
Friday – Depart USA for Istanbul
Overnight flight to Istanbul, Turkey.
Day 2
Saturday – Istanbul
Upon arrival, you will be met at airport and assisted with arrival procedures and transfer to hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure. Overnight in Istanbul.
Day 3
Sunday – Istanbul
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a guided tour to Topkapi Palace – royal residence of the Ottoman Sultans from 1465-1856- followed by visits to St. Sophia (Hagia Sophia), the greatest church in ancient Byzantium and the Blue Mosque, built 1609 and known for the blue tiles adorning the interior walls and for six minarets that tower over the skyline. We end our day enjoying the sights, sounds, aromas of the Spice Market-one of the oldest covered bazaars in the world! Overnight in Istanbul. (B)
Day 4
Monday – Canakkale
After breakfast at the hotel we drive to Gallipoli – significant as the landing & battle with the Allies in WWI- and visit Anzac Cove, Nek, Chunuk Bair, Lone Pine and 57th Regiment Memorial and War Museum. After our time here, we cross the Dardanelles strait (connecting the Sea of Mamara and the Aegean Sea.) for an overnight stay in Canakkale.(B,D)
Day 5
Tuesday – Troy, Pergamum, Kusadasi
After breakfast at the hotel we drive to legendary Troy- center of ancient civilizations and the site where the legendary Trojan War took place. Crossing the legendary mountain Ida, we arrive in Pergamum to visit the incredible ruins of the Acropolis, famous for the Alter of Zeus and one of the Seven Churches of the Revelation of John. Overnight in Kusadasi (B,D)
Day 6
Wednesday – Ephesus, Sirince, Kusadasi
This morning we take a short drive to visit the extensive ruins of Ephesus- famed for the Temple of Artemis, the Letter to the Ephesians that St. Paul wrote, and as one of the seven churches of Asia cited in the Book of Revelation. We continue to the marvelous and beautiful village of Sirince where you may be able to shop for and taste the delicious wines and olive oils of the village. Overnight in Kusadasi. (B,D)
Day 7
Thursday – Hierapolis, Pamukkale, Marmaris
We begin our day driving to Pamukkale through the fertile plain of Meander to visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, famous for its hot springs and natural white terraces formed by them.The Roman period ruins, intertwined with the natural travertine formations offer a spectacular view. We will take time to walk among the ruins of the necropolis, see the ancient theater, and dip our feet into the hot springs. Continue to Marmaris for overnight . (B,D)
Day 8
Friday – Koycegiz and Greek Kayakoy, Fethiye
Following breakfast, we drive to the quiet lakeside town of Koycegiz. We will enjoy a boat cruise to turtle beach and smother ourselves in natural, healing mud at the local mud bath! En route to Fethiye, on the Mediterranean Sea, we’ll stop to explore the quaint Greek village of Kayakoy. Overnight Fethiye and dinner in a local restaurant (B, D
Day 9
Saturday – Fethiye
Today you will have the option of joining a 12 island yacht cruise, spend the day relaxing at one at Turkey’s most beautiful beaches, or enjoy shopping in the quaint markets of Fethiye. Overnight Fethiye. (B)
Day 10
Sunday – Saklikent Gorge, Antalya
After breakfast, we will visit the stunningly beautiful Saklikent Gorge, the longest and deepest gorge in Turkey and second largest in Europe. After trekking along the canyon, we will cross the Taurus Mountains to Antalya. Dinner and overnight in Antalya (B, D)
Day 11
Monday – Antalya (Aspendos), Konya, Cappadocia
An early departure for Konya, stopping enroute to visit the ancient Aspendos Theater. This spectacularly well-preserved theater is one of the best examples of Roman theatre construction in the world. Upon arrival to Konya, we tour the Monastery of the Mervlana Whirling Dervishes. We continue our afternoon drive to Cappadocia via Seljuk- a fine example of an ancient Silk Road caravanserai. Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia (B, D)
Day 12
Tuesday – Cappadocia
Our full day excursion in Cappadocia includes visits to the Kaymakli Underground City, Open Air Museum in Goreme and the natural fortress in Uchisar. Here, we will have the opportunity to discover and understand the rich history behind local handicrafts like hand-made carpets, Turkish tiles, onyx and potteries. An optional and fun Turkish folklore evening and dinner is available tonight. Overnight in Cappadocia. (B, D)
Day 13
Wednesday – Cappadocia, Ankara, Safranbolu
Early in the morning an optional Balloon tour is available to experience this miraculous natural wonder of wind and water that created “fairy chimneys”, rocky pinnacles, cones and spires of pinks and russet-brown! Morning departure for Safranbolu with a stop in Ankara to visit the Museum and Mausoleum of Ataturk -burial place of the national hero who founded the modern Republic of Turkey. We continue our drive Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage sight due to it famous Ottoman houses. Tonight we stay at an old Ottoman mansion. (B, D)
Day 14
Thursday – Safranbolu, Istanbul
After breakfast enjoy visiting the old town of Safranbolu and testing the finest samples of Turkish delight! Afternoon drive to Istanbul where we end our day enjoying the sights, sounds, aromas of the Grand Bazaar-one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world! Overnight Istanbul (B)
Day 15
Friday – Depart for USA
Breakfast. Transfer to airport (Ataturk). (B)
