SATURDAY

SEA OF GALILEE

Today is dedicated to the sites around the Sea of Galilee. From Tiberias, where Jesus lived, sojourned, and preached on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, we will arrive in Capernaum, the center of Jesus ministry; Tabgha, just north of Tiberias, the Christ’s miracle of feeding the 5,000 and the Church of Multiplication where the mosaic floor depicts a basket with loaves and two fishes; onto the Mount of Beatitudes overlooking the Sea, where Jesus preached the “Sermon on the Mount” and, it is believed, Jesus picked his 12 apostles. Then ascend the Golan Heights to enjoy a panoramic view of the peaks of Mt. Hermon, rugged plateau of the Golan Heights and, beneath, the green pastoral Hulah Valley. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight in Tiberias.

SEA OF GALILEE / JORDAN RIVER / JERUSALEM

After breakfast leave the Sea of Galilee and proceed to the village of Cana. Visit the Wedding Church where Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine at the wedding fest. Drive to Nazareth, where Jesus spent his childhood. See the Church of Annunciation, built on the site where, archaeologists believe, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary. You’ll also see Mary’s Well and Joseph’s Church. Continue through the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean, one of the cities of the Decapolis with its recently excavated amphitheater. Visit the excavations of this beautifully preserved Roman City that was destroyed in an earthquake. Drive along Jordan Valley towards Jerusalem and proceed to your hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Continue through the remarkable scenery of the Dead Sea and arrive in Qumran. Visit the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Continue to Massada on an isolated cliff in the Judean Desert. The site has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Ascend by cable car to the fortress, believed to be a battle between the Jewish Zealots in and the Romans. Visit the excavations, King Herod’s palace, the synagogue, bathhouse and much more. Enjoy the breathtaking view over the Dead Sea, all the way to Jerusalem. Take a “dip” into the salty waters of this wonder on earth and enjoy the benefits of the mud, rich in minerals. Return to your hotel in Jerusalem. Dinner and overnight.
