Itinerary

Day 1
TUESDAY – DEPART USA for ATHENS, GREECE
Overnight flight to Athens, Greece. (D)
Day 2
WEDNESDAY – ARRIVE IN ATHENS
Arrive in Athens, Greece. Tour group will be met at airport and assisted with arrival procedures. Enjoy a city tour via motor coach enroute to hotel. Dinner and overnight in Athens
Day 3
THURSDAY – ATHENS
We begin our day in Athens, the city with the most glorious history in the world. We begin at the magnificent Acropolis, the crown jewel of Greece! Our guided tour will take us to the Proplylaia, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, The Parthenon- the most famous surviving building of Ancient Greece-and Mars Hill-where the Apostle Paul confronted the idolatrous beliefs of the “Men of Athens” and delivered his famous speech about the identity of “the Unknown God.” (Acts 17). We will continue on to the Dionysus Theater, House of Parliament, and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Odeon of Herodes, and the ancient Agora (marketplace). We continue our day to Corinth, the most beautiful & frivolous city of Roman Greece! While in Corinth we visit the Bema and remember Paul’s trial and ministry. This is followed by a visit to the temple of Apollo, the Agora (ancient market place), museum, and the Fountain of Peirene. Dinner and overnight in Athens. (B,D)
Day 4
FRIDAY – CRUISE TO MYKONOS
This morning we motor coach to the Port of Piraeus to begin our cruise to some of the Greek Isles. Weather and time permitting there will be a short stop at Mykonos with its dazzling white houses, narrow paved streets, shops and windmills. Dinner is served on board the ship. (B,L,D)
Day 5
SATURDAY – RHODES
Our ship enters the port of Rhodes, largest island of the Dodecanese, which was once dominated by Colossus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Optional Excursion (price not included) Tour of Rhodes and Lindos: Drive along the southeastern coastline to Lindos, the most important of the three great cities of ancient times, overlooking the Aegean Sea and St Paul’s Bay. A natural harbor, the bay became a refuge for St. Paul’s ship during a storm in 58 AD. His arrival led to the establishment of Christianity on Rhodes. There is free time for wandering Lindos, a picturesque, ancient village with its Acropolis towering above, before driving back to the City of Rhodes. There is time for a walking tour through Medieval Rhodes Old Town-the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe. Dinner served onboard the ship. (B,L,D)
Day 6
SUNDAY – KUSADASI/EPHESUS, TURKEY- PATMOS, GREECE
Early morning arrival in Kusadasi, a lovely Turkish port and gateway to the ancient city of Ephesus. Excursion to Ancient Ephesus (fee is included in the cruise price): we take a short drive to visit the extensive ruins of Ephesus- famed for the Temple of Artemis, the Letter to the Ephesians that St. Paul wrote, and as one of the seven churches of Asia cited in the Book of Revelation. Spending time walking among the ruins, we will view ancient monuments such as the Forum, the Odeon, the Library of Celsus, the Thermal Bath of Scolastika and the Great Theatre, built in the Greek era and reconstructed in the Roman period. Walk along the amazing Arcadian Way, where once Mark Anthony and Cleopatra rode in procession. On this excursion we will also visit the Church of the Virgin Mary and St. John’s Church built by Justinian in 527-565. We will set sail for Patmos arriving about 4:00 pm. On Patmos, Optional Excursion (fee is not included in the cruise price) to the Monastery and Grotto of St John. Departing the port of Skala by motor coach you will enjoy the short drive up to the Monastery of St John, which has been magnificently built within the walls of a strong fortification. Walk uphill towards the entrance of the Monastery; view the courtyard, the Monks’ dining room and the main church with its outstanding frescoes and the small but beautiful museum. Continue on to the nearby Grotto of the Apocalypse where above stands the church of the Apocalypse. Once inside the grotto, see the silver niches in the wall that mark the pillow and ledge used as a desk by St. John as he wrote the Book of Revelations, and view the three-fold crack made by the Voice of God. . A full & unforgettable day! Dinner served onboard. (B,L,D)
Day 7
MONDAY – METEORA & KALAMBAKA, GREECE
This morning we arrive in Piraeus following our cruise then depart by motor coach for Meteora, in Western Thessaly, where the world famous Byzantine monasteries perch precariously on top of rock pinnacles. These are built directly on the rock’s surface without foundations as such. Religious life, starting in the form of hermits’ dwellings, can be traced to around 1,000 AD. The first monastic community emerged in the 14th century, and was most successful during the 15th and 16th centuries. By the 17th century, the monastic population had dwindled to one-third of its original size. The monasteries represent a unique example of monastic life since the 14th century. We will have an opportunity to visit one or more of the monasteries. Dinner and our overnight in Kalambaka. (B,D)
Day 8
TUESDAY – ATHENS
Following breakfast, we return to Athens for a free afternoon of exploration, shopping, or relaxing. Dinner and overnight in Athens. (B,D)
Day 9
WEDNESDAY – DEPART FOR USA
Following breakfast, transfer from hotel to airport for flight home. (B)
