(Matt. 5: 1-15). We drive along the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum (Mark 1: 31-38), the base of Jesus’ early ministry, the home of Peter, and the site of many healings. Later we board a wooden “Jesus Boat”, a fishing boat of the kind used by the disciples of Jesus, for our ride on the Sea of Galilee. After lunch we travel north into the Golan Heights to view the Galilee from a special lookout. Continuing south, we enjoy a stop at Masada, the fortress built by King Herod and site of the last Jewish resistance against the Romans in 73 AD. Ascending the area by cable car, visitors are able to survey the ruins of the fortifications, waterworks, synagogue, temples and palaces. Time permitting will include a special stop at the Dead Sea, the lowest spot on the earth, for a short float in the healing waters. Please be sure to bring water/closed end shoes, as the bottom surface can be rough. If conditions permit, we will also visit Jericho today. | Day 7 | MONDAY, APRIL 30: GARDEN TOMB, MT. OF OLIVES, PALM SUNDAY ROAD, GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE, JEWISH QUARTER, TEMPLE MOUNT, SOUTHERN STEPS | After breakfast, we begin our morning at the Garden Tomb where Pastor Perry will teach (8:30 am). Following our time in this peaceful and meditative place, we proceed to the beautiful Mt. of Olives to behold the breathtaking panorama of the Holy City. Our pilgrimage today will proceed down the Old Palm Sunday Road (Mark 11:1-11) to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus spent His last hours among the now ancient olive grove (Matt. 26: 30-46), and the Church of All Nations, where tradition holds that Jesus prayed on the night of His betrayal (Matt. 26:36, John 18:1). Entering the Old City of Jerusalem through the Zion Gate, we walk to the most holy shrine of the Jewish people- the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) of Herod's temple. Beyond the wall lies the 35-acre temple area purchased by King David (2 Sam. 24:18-25) where Jesus was taken as a young boy, and about which Jesus Christ prophesied its destruction (Mark 13:1-2). On this site now stands the golden Dome of the Rock (the third holiest shrine in all Islam) and the El-Aksa Mosque. From the temple area, we make our way along the Via Dolorosa (the Way of the Cross), the road which Jesus walked after being sentenced by Pontius Pilate– including the Pools of Bethesda, where Jesus healed a paralytic (John 5:1-15), the Pavement (where Jesus stood while being tried by Pilate), Ecce Homo Arch (Behold the Man), where Pilate ordered Christ to be brought forth to the Jews (John 19:5), and the ancient Cardo. A full and enlightening day! Dinner and overnight in Jerusalem. |
