Following breakfast, we depart for our day in ancient Canterbury, a pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Ancient walls, originally built by the Romans, encircle its medieval center with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. Following breakfast, we have an early departure for Oxford - one of England’s famous University cities with a rich Reformation history. The early English reformer, John Wycliffe, was a professor at the university. Other well-known students included Bible translator William Tyndale and the great revivalist preacher George Whitefield. Morning departure for York. By 306 when Constantine The Great was proclaimed Emperor in York, it is believed there was a small Christian community. In 312 he issued a general edict of toleration for the Christian Church and York became a center of Christianity. Dinner and overnight in Durham.

Durham Cathedral was built between the late 11th and early 12th century to house the bodies of St. Cuthbert (634-687 AD) (the evangelizer of Northumbria) and the Venerable Bede (672/3-735 AD). Enjoy a full-day tour of Edinburgh focusing on its extraordinary Christian history. Looming over this medieval Old Tow is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish rulers. On day 2, in the morning, we visit Holyrood Palace, where John Knox had discussions about Christianity with Mary, Queen of Scots. We then tour Edinburgh Castle, the birthplace of James VI, who authorized the King James Bible. Afterward, enjoy free time in Edinburgh for shopping, exploration, and relaxation.

In the morning, we travel to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the fountainhead of England's Christian heritage. Lindisfarne played a crucial role in spreading the early Christian message to pagan Northumberland. We will visit Lindisfarne Priory, home of St. Cuthbert and the birthplace of the Lindisfarne Gospels, an illuminated Latin manuscript of Mark, Luke, and John. The Lindisfarne Heritage Center features an electronic copy of the Gospels and offers a comprehensive history of the island and St. Cuthbert’s story. Finally, we’ll explore Lindisfarne Castle, a small fortress built in 1550, standing on a rocky outcrop overlooking the island.

We depart from Edinburgh, crossing the Firth of Forth on our way to St. Andrews. Along the journey, we stop at Dunfermline Abbey in Fife, a medieval Benedictine abbey destroyed during the Scottish Reformation and the burial site of St. Margaret and Robert the Bruce. We continue through scenic fishing villages before reaching St. Andrews, the ancient ecclesiastical capital of Scotland. In St. Andrews, we visit St. Andrews Castle, a historic residence for kings and a notorious prison during the Reformation, including the castle's bottle dungeon where many reformers were imprisoned. We conclude with a short stroll through the village and a view of The Old Course – Home of Golf.
